We define impact investments as socially responsible investments that specifically set out to deliver benefits to poor and disadvantaged individuals and communities whilst having the potential to provide a market rate return for the investor.
Whilst many funds attempt to ‘screen out’ businesses and industries for negative reasons impact investments ‘screen in’ activities that can be shown to have a direct positive impact on the people’s lives especially those in developing nations. We believe it is the human dimension which sets socially motivated investments apart.
However impact investments are not purely defined by the positive social impact they deliver. Truestone also believes strongly that investors should not have to make significant sacrifices in investment returns in order to do ‘good’ with their money.
